Integrating Google Search into Wordpress

someone said something

I’ve just changed my Wordpress theme and doing some customizations. I’m not using any plugins for Google Search so I thought I’d share this simple way of integrating it into Wordpress whilst keeping the theme. Everything has been simplified thanks to the improved Adsense for Search.

1. Login to your Google Adsense account, go to Adsense Setup and click on Adsense for Search. Select your desired settings and click Continue. Choose your look and feel and click Continue again. For Opening of search results page, select Open results within my own site and enter “http://yourdomain.com/search-results.php” (without the quotes). Complete the rest of the settings and hit Continue again. You’ll get to Name Your Search Engine, then hit the Submit and Get Code button.

2. There will be two code snippets for you to copy, Search Box Code and Search Results Code. Firstly, copy the Search Box Code. Go back to your Wordpress and Design a Widget, add a Text widget to your sidebar. Edit your Text widget and paste your Search Box Code inside, Save Changes.

3. Next, Write a new Page in Wordpress and give it a title “Search results” (this will generate a page named http://yourdomain.com/search-results.php), uncheck all the fields under Comments & Pings. Now go back to Google and copy and paste your Search Results Code into your Post and Publish.

And there you have it! A personalized Google Search results page!

Bling it on!

Learn how to customize your mobile phone with Swarovski crystals and where to find them cheap in Arab Street, Singapore.

Oh no, I’ve blown my cover! Yes, I admit to visiting Xiaxue’s blog as much as I don’t like her in real life (because she likes to act diva and snobbish, rude fella who walks into someone else’s office yakking away on her phone disregarding everybody else), you gotta admit her blog is rather entertaining with lots of photos (I don’t like wordy blogs). I found this video very helpful and useful to those who never knew the existence of epoxy: forget “elephant glue”!

I didn’t write this tutorial, she did. Enjoy…

P/S: Not all Singaporeans speak her kind of English. For the really lost ones, Singaporeans do speak English. No, I’m not using a translator and no, Singapore is not in China! :p

Motorola Q9h

nobody said anything

I’ve got a new toy, and at a great price of only SG$68 after renewing a high-end plan and trading in my old cellphone. Being the absentminded girl that I am, I rely on my phone to remind me of appointments and also as my trusty alarm clock. Here’s what I think of the Motorola Q9h.

tuzki is the official Q9h mascot

Feels solid with an excellent QWERTY keyboard, no complaints. Easy to assemble but manual doesn’t show you how to insert the extended memory card. Comes with a good leather case with a clip that I want to remove but it’s not removable. Haven’t seen a desktop charger in ages, it also charges via USB.

This is my first time using a Windows Mobile cell so it took a bit of getting used to. First thing I wanted to do was customize the Home Screen. It was a huge pain in the a** to do so because there is no way of previewing so I had to set and view, set and view, set and view. Doesn’t help that it comes with names like Luminescence (what I’m using now), Pixelation, Sand Flower or Translucent (which is actually red by the way) so you can’t really tell what colors they are.

A few things I don’t like:

x Doesn’t come with multiple alarm clocks like Sony Ericsson phones
x Contacts need to be in phone if you want to add a mugshot to the name (and I haven’t found out how to mass copy all the contacts in my SIM card to the phone)
x I get running applications that I’m not running and I need to do an end task every now and then
x I wish it had two shift keys instead of one because it’s a little inconvenient to type in caps for chars on the right side of the keyboard
x I can’t unlock the phone without looking at the phone because of the weird key combination
x No WIFI (not that I really need it since my DS and iPod Touch both have it)
x The phone is processing pretty okay overall except when I try to access Media Centre > Audio with which it lags like crazy trying to search and like fetch all the audio files in the phone

Well, it does come with a whole lot of features which you can read up on, plus it is compatible with BlackBerry Connect. Overall, I’m pretty happy with my new phone. :)
