PhoneBAK SE

3 people gossiping

Earlier this year, my tablet PC was stolen right under my nose from my access-only office. It was company’s property and I had to pay $1,000 even though technically, it wasn’t my negligence. It was really upsetting; police reports and investigations didn’t help a bit. I wished I had BAK2U back then (especially when I already knew about the service before my tablet got stolen). It’s a really small price to pay for insurance, there’s no subscriptions or annual fees. Prior to that, I left my mobile phone in a cab and sadly, the cab driver/next passenger didn’t return it to me. :(

So when BLOG2u ran this PhoneBAK SE (Anti-theft for Sony Ericsson phones) campaign, I was more than happy to try it out.

I should have known better than to “challenge the system” by transferring it the installation files via Bluetooth the first time, then via the phone cable the second. Both resulted in the software working incorrectly. So please follow the instructions and transfer the files to your memory stick only. After transferring the two files (.jar and .jad), run the .jad file to install PhoneBAK.

PhoneBAK has a Data Eraser function which will erase everything from your internal and external phone memory in case of a breach so your contacts and any other personal data will be safe. You can set up to two different numbers to be notified when your phone is misused or stolen, please remember NOT to enter your own mobile number (duh!). I like the fact that I can customize my own warning message to the person who “stole” my phone.

The PDF instructions were not as clear as I’d like but after getting through the initial hiccups, you won’t need to meddle with it anymore.

I’m using a W850i right now and I hope they will release versions for all other brands of mobile phones and iPods soon.

Advertlets

nobody said anything

If you happen to notice (who wouldn’t) the Advertlets ads I have on my website, well, that’s half the battle won because they work! Firstly, Advertlets ads are nicely designed and they capture your attention. Next, they have campaigns like Victoria’s Secrets, Local Design, and Snapfish that both you and I would be interested in. They come in different shapes and sizes so you can choose one that best fits your blog template.

Example of an Advertlets ad

But what’s most important, is that apart from earning by ad clicks from your readers, they pay you by cost per impression (CPM) too! Don’t you find it ridiculous to be helping your ad provider company by listing so many of their (random) advertisements and having nobody click on them, thus translating to zero earnings? Especially true for personal blogs like us that don’t get a thousand hits per day, if 1% of our readers actually click on the ads, it still equates to almost zero clicks per day.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that I earned a few cents on the first day of putting up Advertlets ads. Few cents may not be a lot but at least I am getting something. They also have special campaigns for bloggers every now and then, such as this one that I’m participating right now: place an Advertlets ad, write a review on Advertlets, and you get $15 immediately!

Just to add another 2cents (pun intended) to this, I’m glad I ditched their competitor because the staff at Advertlets actually do reply to your e-mail should you have any queries; you know they did read your mail and put some thought into replying by reading their replies which makes me feel well taken care of. :)
