Comparing ads
So I’ve removed all the clutter and reduced the lag, the following is what I think of some of the online ad serves that I’ve tried and tested.
Adsense
Possibly the least fancy but quite relevant and surprisingly, the $$$ is comparable to other ad serves. Some ads are cost-per-click (CPC), some are cost-per-thousand-impression (CPM). My ads are mostly CPC because it’s not so huge/popular that advertisers choose to place an ad here for CPM. Cashout at US$100.
Advertlets
You get paid CPC and CPM, payout is in RM, cashout at RM$100. No minimum traffic requirements. One of the prettiest advertisements. Malaysian based company, server lags out terribly quite frequently causing my blog to load slowly.
BLOG2u.SG
One of my favorite and best paying, they match you with an advertiser and you get to choose whether or not you wish to write an advertorial on the vendor. Singapore-based, cashout is immediate via internet bank transfer! Remember to say keymistress referred you!

Welcome to the MLM of online advertising! Ugly flash ads, CPC only. Good for massive tech blogs, doesn’t work for me.
At the end of the day, I wonder when I’ll ever hit the minimum cash payout. Probably after 3 years of blogging, maybe?

Earlier this year, my tablet PC was stolen right under my nose from my access-only office. It was company’s property and I had to pay $1,000 even though technically, it wasn’t my negligence. It was really upsetting; police reports and investigations didn’t help a bit. I wished I had BAK2U back then (especially when I already knew about the service before my tablet got stolen). So when BLOG2u ran this PhoneBAK SE (Anti-theft for Sony Ericsson phones) campaign, I was more than happy to try it out.
I should have known better than to “challenge the system” by transferring it the installation files via Bluetooth the first time, then via the phone cable the second. Both resulted in the software working incorrectly. So please follow the instructions and transfer the files to your memory stick only. After transferring the two files (.jar and .jad), run the .jad file to install PhoneBAK.
PhoneBAK has a Data Eraser function which will erase everything from your internal and external phone memory in case of a breach so your contacts and any other personal data will be safe. You can set up to two different numbers to be notified when your phone is misused or stolen, please remember NOT to enter your own mobile number (duh!). I like the fact that I can customize my own warning message to the person who “stole” my phone.
The PDF instructions were not as clear as I’d like but after getting through the initial hiccups, you won’t need to meddle with it anymore.
I’m using a W850i right now and I hope they will release versions for all other brands of mobile phones and iPods soon.
