PhoneBAK SE

Tech December 21st, 2007

Earlier this year, my tablet PC was stolen right under my nose from my access-only office. It was company’s property and I had to pay $1,000 even though technically, it wasn’t my negligence. It was really upsetting; police reports and investigations didn’t help a bit. I wished I had BAK2U back then (especially when I already knew about the service before my tablet got stolen). It’s a really small price to pay for insurance, there’s no subscriptions or annual fees. Prior to that, I left my mobile phone in a cab and sadly, the cab driver/next passenger didn’t return it to me. :(

So when BLOG2u ran this PhoneBAK SE (Anti-theft for Sony Ericsson phones) campaign, I was more than happy to try it out.

I should have known better than to “challenge the system” by transferring it the installation files via Bluetooth the first time, then via the phone cable the second. Both resulted in the software working incorrectly. So please follow the instructions and transfer the files to your memory stick only. After transferring the two files (.jar and .jad), run the .jad file to install PhoneBAK.

PhoneBAK has a Data Eraser function which will erase everything from your internal and external phone memory in case of a breach so your contacts and any other personal data will be safe. You can set up to two different numbers to be notified when your phone is misused or stolen, please remember NOT to enter your own mobile number (duh!). I like the fact that I can customize my own warning message to the person who “stole” my phone.

The PDF instructions were not as clear as I’d like but after getting through the initial hiccups, you won’t need to meddle with it anymore.

I’m using a W850i right now and I hope they will release versions for all other brands of mobile phones and iPods soon.

How to Choose a Gocco?

Articles, Craft supplies August 18th, 2007

Many people ask me “Which Gocco should I buy?” or “Where can I buy a Print Gocco?” thus I’ve decided to put together this little article (possibly the first of a series) to share what it’s all about. Personally, I own an NEHOC Screenprint Kit which I bought from NEHOC Australia.

Basically all models of the print Gocco can be used for paper and fabric, depending on the additional accessories that you purchase or use with the machine. Similarly, the size that a print Gocco can produce is not limited by its model nor restricted by its default print size. You can do multiple exposures to one big sheet of screen mesh to produce larger prints (it’s simply more work). The differences between the models lie in the default imaging size and the accessories provided (bulbs, inks, squeegee, etc), which will allow you to print on different mediums such as paper, cloth or even ceramics!

Differences between printing on paper and printing on fabric
Ink: Well firstly, you’ll need different types of ink. You may use fabric inks on paper but the reverse is not true as paper inks on fabric will not survive washing. However, I have used fabric inks on paper without any problems. I am not sure about how archival-safe the paper or fabric inks are though.
Accessories: You’ll need a squeegee to apply the ink onto fabrics instead of “press printing” the image onto the cloth.

Pretty hairties

Hairties

These finally arrived in my mail after some hiccups with the postal service! These fabric button ponytail holders from The Magpies Nest are so pretty and they’re made with “Ouchless Goody” hair bands. Shop owner, Renee, from has been most patient and friendly with me when the parcels didn’t reach me a few times. There are even more designs in her shop and she has hair clips and slides too!
