Passport or Book Cover Tutorial
Tutorials January 15th, 2008
Whee!!~~~ I’m leaving for Japan in another 24 hours! But before that, here’s part 1 of 12 tutorials I promised. You can use this tutorial to make a passport cover or any other book covers. It’s all hand sewn, no machine involved. It’s easy, I promise!
Here’s a photo of my completed passport cover:

Firstly, measure the size height and breadth of your book. Breadth of your book should be measured with your book open or you could multiply the breadth by 2 if it’s closed. Point: Remember to include the spine!
Next, add 4″ to the width and add 1/2″ to the height. That will be the size of your fabric.
Blanket stitch the two shorter sides of your rectangular piece of fabric. Blanket stitches will prevent your fabric from fraying. You can also use Fray Stop to make it more sturdy.

How to do a blanket stitch, scanned from Stitch Idees
Fold the sides 4″ in and blanket stitch all around the rectangle. Your blanket stitch should be about 1/4″.
And we’re done! I added a patch and stamped mine with fabric ink, have fun customizing!
