Arab Street & Haji Lane

Author, Shopping February 28th, 2008

Last Monday, Emily and I met at Lavender MRT Station for some shopping and exploring! She brought me to the Textile Centre for some cheap zippers available in every color! We bumped into her family and they treated me lunch, we even had tea together! After that, we trotted down to Arab Street!

Arab Street
Yup, Arab Street!

Bottles of perfumes
Do you know what’s inside these bottles?

shop owner
Shop owner doing a cocktail?

Those are actually perfumes! Made of natural oils, I’m not sure if they’re essential oils, the shop owner can concoct store-brand perfumes like Chanel, Burberry, Nina Ricci or even Calvin Klein! There are a number of such shops on Arab Street and each vial costs only a couple of dollars. :)

Look what else we found!

Cookies and Fabrics

I met up with dear SYT blackbiscuits yesterday at Plaza Singapura yesterday. We went shopping at Spotlight, the only one left in Singapore. :( It’s terribly messy and I don’t like to shop there but it’s fun when you’ve got good company. :) I learnt about the remnants bin from blackbiscuits and scored a very light blue gingham! I also learnt that the minimum I could buy was 1/4 meter instead of 1/2 meter and bought some light blue gingham for a long overdue craft project.

Cookies & Fabrics
Home-baked cookies with lotsa love

blackbiscuits‘ going back to Melbourne for her studies in 2 weeks. I’m gonna miss her and the yummy stuff she bakes for me whenever we meet up. She even remembers I hate raisins and dislike nuts even though I only told her once a very long time ago; now she makes me my favorite no-nut chocolate chip cookies. This time the cookies are pink inside and there are even heart shaped “rainbow rice”!

On Valentine’s day, I visited Cynthia’s place and she taught me how to make felt beads and beaded hair slides! She so generously gave me a bag of hemp cords and wool for my own crafty projects. I’m going to post again once I’ve finished a felt bead project. Cynthia holds her own beading classes and you can find more details here!

I went home in the evening and prepared pasta salad with soup for a simple Valentine’s day dinner with hubby. It’s a quiet one this year with no lavish gifts because I’m in between jobs and we’re both pretty broke. It’s my first time whipping up pesto pasta salad and I am very happy with how it turned out. I even had a Jamie Oliver moment charring the capsicum over open fire on the stove! He bought me a single stalk of pink rose, it’s the first pink rose I got from him in all these years! It’s sweet, and pink is sweet. I used to looove half-bloomed blue roses, I don’t know why. Now I prefer them champagne, pink or red, and fully bloomed!

Shopping in Japan

Shopping, Travel January 31st, 2008

It’s the winter sale and apart from snagging a 900yen cotton cashmere top and a pair of 900yen ballet flats from Gap, here are my most expensive buys:

Tinkerbell earrings from Disney Sea. I like them so much that when I saw them that I forgot about my allergy! Luckily, they’re rhodium with surgical steel posts.
