BB cream (Blemish Balm) review

A very lovely lady sold samples of her extensive BB cream stash to me to try out before buying. My sis is going to Korea next week or so and she’ll be helping me get some! :) Korean brands like The Face Shop, Missha and Skin Food are waaay overpriced in Singapore (about 50% more).

I don’t think I can vouch on the effectiveness of the BB cream as I didn’t really monitor my skin but there have been many testimonials by other ladies. As for oil control, I honestly didn’t feel that they did anything for that matter but some left my face oilier than the others at the end of the day. My current fave is Skin Food’s Aloe Sun BB cream.

On blending…
I personally feel that all the BB creams don’t blend very well, you’ll need the help of a sponge unless you wanna risk adding a few more age lines to the canvas. I’ve tried to pre-mix my BB cream with moisturiser, it works but I just don’t like the idea. I prefer applying the BB cream immediately after my moisturiser while my face is still, erm, moist; then quickly work in the BB cream. After that, I finish off by dusting on my Ettusais Day Protect Powder (using it as loose powder).

On choosing the right shade…
All the creams left my face with a whitish cast (#1 for Skin Food). Unless you’re fair without yellow undertones (usually Asians have yellow undertones), I recommend you choose #2 Natural for Skin Food BB creams where you have a choice.

Reviews
dermaRX Beblesh balm SPF15
Smells like clay mask, the type that hardens on your face when you go for facials at a beauty salon. Much lighter texture and easier to blend compared to the rest.

Dr.Jart+ Rejuvenating Blemish Balm for all skin types SPF 10 Anti-Irritant Concealer
The worst smelling of the BB creams I’ve tried. It’s hard to describe, some reckon it to smell like detergent? Not sure if it’s because I wasn’t very thorough on removing it at the end of the day but after consecutive use, some small bumps start to appear.

Skin Food Gingko Green BB Cream vs Skin Food Aloe Sun BB Cream SPF20 PA+
SF Aloe has a very light fragrance that’s better than Gingko, but the smell of Gingko isn’t bad or anything, both simply have a very mild scent. I prefer Aloe because of its SPF properties, so I don’t need to apply sunscreen anymore. Gingko left my face oilier compared to Aloe too. That said, Aloe wins hands down!

BRTC Perfect Recover Balm
The smell is similar to SF Gingko, but less noticeable. I was advised that this isn’t readily available in the shops in Korea, I can’t remember if it’s prescription only or? However, you are able to order it online if you can read Korean from their online shop. *shrugs* Currently, this is the most trusted medical brand BB cream till date.

  • Hi I stumbled across your entry while searching for skinfood BB cream reviews.

I am quite confused by the shades. According to the skinfood site, #1 is more suitable for us but you would prefer #2?

  • Hi there,

Yup, even though the skinfood site recommends #1, I personally prefer #2 and think that it looks more natural on asian skin. Unless you are milky fair ala Fann Wong (if you’re from Singapore) or say Liv Tyler. ;)

  • hi
i went to korean super market in chicago last weekend in search of BB cream.
I asked one of the beauty shop lady how to use the bb cream, and she told me you are supposed to “tap” to blend the cream into your skin. …suprisingly, it workd better than sponge! So you should try “tapping” BB cream for blending! GL

  • Hi, do you sell samples?
I really would like to get lots of samples please.
If you don’t, do you know where or how I can get samples?
    Thank you.

  • Thanks for the tip, eri!

Rita: I’m afraid not but you can check out beauty forums like Cozycot. ;)

  • Hello~
Thanks for the really great info. I’d really like to try out BB creams, but I haven’t been able to find anything about whether these brands do animal testing or not (except Missha). Do you know if any brands don’t do animal testing?
    Thanks v much!

  • Hello Fiore, I’m afraid I haven’t seen any BB creams that says”no animal testing” or the likes. Also, they’re usually from Korea so I have no idea what’s written! ;)

  • Hi again!
Yeah, it’s been really difficult finding out this info, but thanks for getting back to me!

  • Hey..i know from u tat some stuff about Dr Jart BB cream, can i know more frm ur experience?coz’ i wanna buy one of the BB cream..but it’s hard to get in m’sia. in fact, the price is tat expensive..
I found a webpage that a salegirl was selling dr.Jart product, can i know more bout their product??
if i wanna buy, which brand u recommend for an oily skin type girl?

  • Hello Sylvia,

I can’t really remember much more than what I’ve already written above as it’s been quite awhile. Looking through my reviews I’d think you should go for dermaRX Beblesh balm SPF15 since it’s got the lightest consistency which will be good for oily skin. Otherwise, Skin Food Aloe is a good value for money that is more commonly available. ;) Use sparingly!

    Hope that helps! :)

  • hmm…wil the skin food aloe be oily?coz i dun like the sticky, oily and shiny feeling

  • Erm… it’s not matte but I don’t think it’s oily. I always dust my ettusais day protect powder over my BB cream.

  • ooh…ettusais..the brand specially for oily skin girl…i love tat brand..skin food..i haven use b4…so i ask lot bout this product..keke..paiseh..

  • hi i stumbled across ur blog while looking for bb cream reviews.. i was wondering if you have wore bb cream to places you’ll sweat, like clubbing,before?curious..

  • Hello kellz, yes I’ve worn it for a whole day at work right through a night of clubbing. Of course your face will become oily midday so I use a piece of tissue to dab the oil and perspiration of my face. I still look fine after that. Don’t have a habit of touching up my makeup at all though. ;)

  • thanks for replying so fast!what is your skin type? mine is oily and acne prone…i just bought skinfood gingko green though.. all because aloe sun was slightly $$$$..advice? hehe

  • I have sensitive combination skin, I think that’s really the worst combo possible I’ve got, haha! I have tried Gingko before but like I mentioned, Aloe smells nicer and it has SPF. Hope that helps! :)

  • thanks alot!!err im so sorry for asking another question..u mentioned u wore bb cream the whole day right thru a night of clubbing..which bb cream were u wearing? if u rmb..heh..sorry for asking again

  • It’s the Skin Food Aloe BB cream! :)

  • thaanks alot :) im gonna ask for an exchange^^ thanks for sharing!!helped alot

  • Recently i am into BB cream too. I found out that Singapore is already selling BRTC and Rojukiss in Watson’s store. Have you tried it before ? Faceshop and Laniege has also their product. Sasa is selling a brand – Toc Toc which was advertised in Her World. Any thots ?

  • Hi(: i am thinking about buying Skin Food’s aloe BB cream but I am not sure which shade is suitable for me. How do I know?

  • raeq: I’m afraid I haven’t tried those brands before, sorry! Kinda passed the BB cream phase now, hah!

Ciana: There are only two shades. If you like to look fair and you’re very fair, then go for shade 1. For me, I prefer looking slightly “healthy”, so I chose 2. You can actually test the product at the store. Either way, it’s actually very sheer so you can’t go wrong really. ;)

  • Hey babe, maybe this site maybe helpful to you cos they are giving away free samples like BRTC ROJUKISS BB creams samples ETC http://www.fr3b.com/sample/sample_gallery.php

    =D

  • hii(:
do u know if BRTC perfect recover balm lighten acne scars over time?

  • Hello everyone!

I read on vivawomen.net what the ingredients are of the bb gold caviar cream from brtc. Two ingredients are marked: Parahydroxybenzoate and Chlorphenesin. I didn’t know what these are and I’ve found out that ‘Oxybenzone’ could be very harmfull!

    http://ezinearticles.com/?Choose-Your-Skin-Care-Anti-Wrinkle-Cream-Carefully&id=1488642
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxybenzone

So could you please check the box of another BB cream (preferrably also from brtc) to see if the ingredient ‘Oxybenzone’ (or Parahydroxybenzoate)is NOT present? I will need a BB cream with withening effect and preferrably also sunscreen but without this ingredient!!

    Thanks everyone!

  • ERI- which shop did u go to for bb cream? i am going there this weekend and want to buy bb cream! thanks!

  • yes, the skin food singapore is very over-rated. i hate it so much. evil. i met so many people sockered in to their over-charged prices.

the cheapest bb cream that i bought was from a HK seller it was couple days ago it should be arriving in the next 5 days or so… but pricings on other products http://www.skintouchx.cc.cc or http://www.sasa.com is the best.

  • Hi Sher,
We do not have Oxybenzone or Parahydroxybenzoate in our BB Creams.
